Students of the School of Molecular Biology and Genetics Assistants, from the School of Medicine of the UBA, visited IBioBA and had a practical experience in laboratory techniques.

Sebastián Giusti, in addition to being a researcher in the Molecular Neurobiology group at IBioBA, CONICET-Max Planck, is a lecturer at the School of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires. A few days ago, he invited his students from the School of Molecular Biology and Genetics Assistants to the institute to experience laboratory work with their own hands.

During the first day of the meeting, they toured the IBioBA facilities and had a talk about the experimental project they would carry out. Then, they separated into groups and worked in the laboratory to analyze their genetic information through a forensic genetics technique based on PCR reaction. Finally, they met to analyze the results obtained and share their experiences.

“The objective of this experience is to enrich their practical knowledge about theoretical contents that they study but do not carry out at the university, and that later, as teachers, they will have to share with other students”, says Giusti. This also allows them to have contact with the world of research, a professional field not often chosen by medical graduates.
