The founder of IBioBA received the prize, awarded by the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), in the category “Trajectory in Exact, Natural, Biomedical and Technological Sciences”.
The winners of the “Dr. Eduardo Charreau Awards for Regional Scientific and Technological Cooperation” of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) have been announced. On this occasion, Dr. Eduardo Arzt, founder of IBioBA, received the award in the category Trajectory in Exact, Natural, Biomedical and Technological Sciences.
The award was created in 2020 with the aim not only to pay tribute to a notable figure in Ibero-American science, but also to reward the scientific production and cooperation of researchers in the region. “Dr. Charreau was the one who signed the CONICET statute with the Max Planck Society for the operation of IBioBA and was part of the Foundation for the Support of IBioBA. Eduardo Charreau was not only a great scientist, but also a great promoter of science in Argentina. He was and will always be a reference for us”, said Arzt.
Eduardo Arzt shares the award with Bernardo Galvão Castro Filho, from Brazil. Also receiving the award are Margarita Greene-Zúñiga, in the category “Trajectory in social sciences and humanities”; and Eduardo Undurraga in the category “Stimulus”, both from Chile. This year, it was also decided to award a special mention to Damasia Becu de Villalobos of the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine (IBYME, CONICET).
The jury was made up of representatives of the three organizing institutions: Luis Scasso, director of the office of the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) in Argentina; Susana Hernández, president of the Argentinean Association for the Advancement of Science (AAPC); and Miguel Ángel Blesa, member of the Interciencia Association (AI).
