Yesterday afternoon we received the visit of 6th year students of the International Baccalaureate (IB) of the Pestalozzi School. Twenty boys and girls, together with their teachers, listened to an introductory talk by Patricio Yankilevich, coordinator of the Bioinformatics Platform, who told them about the research lines and groups of the Institute, the link between IBioBA and the Max Planck Society, and the work of CONICET scientific researchers. He also told them about his work and the scope of the research carried out with the Genomic Data Analysis Platform.
After visiting the Institute, Sebastián Giusti, researcher of the Molecular Neurobiology team, explained the procedure to extract plasmid DNA and in the laboratory, also guided by doctoral fellows of the Institute, the students were able to perform this technique with their own hands.
This activity -which is part of the cooperation agreement that the Institute has with the Pestalozzi Cultural Association- represents one of the pillars of IBioBA, as it seeks to complement its basic research work with actions aimed at communicating science and promoting scientific vocations.
